Decades of research have shown that satisfaction at work has little to do with what you do but rather who you do it with. Fulfillment comes from a fundamental connection between your values and those of your team. At Highwire, we’ve invested heavily in discovering our values and defining what makes an A-player. We measure how well each of us lives each value, we acknowledge when we fall short, and we use our values as hiring criteria to bring more A-players on board.
In addition to caring about who we work with, it’s imperative to understand why we do what we do. At Highwire, it’s simple: we save lives. From our earliest days at Harvard, our mission was to reduce workplace injuries and fatalities by elevating the entire industry. Today, we talk about our Drive to Zero; that is, zero fatalities.
We believe A-players want earned success. This provides a sense of accomplishment, as well as confidence that we’re good at our jobs. The more success we earn, the more we commit to our work while bringing our best selves home to our personal lives. At Highwire, we’re big on objectives and key results (OKRs). We use this framework to provide clear guidance and feedback, reward merit, and encourage our teammates to stretch their limits and develop new skills.
We’re assembling a team of A-players who are ready to meet the challenges ahead of us and elevate their careers. Our approach isn’t for everyone, but we stick to our values and let them guide our every decision.
We know great work can’t happen if the basics aren’t covered. That’s why we go above and beyond on both compensation and benefits.
When it comes to compensation, we pay above market. We’ve benchmarked our positions against external surveys to ensure we always beat the market.
Our benefits go well beyond the basics. To support your work-life integration, we built a benefits program that takes care of the whole person, including physical, mental, financial, and emotional health.
At Highwire, we value in-person collaboration to innovate, build trust, and form bonds with our team. There’s a magic that happens when we work side-by-side that cannot be replicated on Zoom or Slack. Physical proximity removes friction from information sharing, creates opportunities for spontaneous brainstorming, and facilitates apprenticeship-style learning from co-workers.
With that in mind, our default is to come to the office most days. Our dynamic office culture is meaningfully strengthened when we work together in person.
